The Creation

Heaven and Earth
God did make
In the beginning of time.
No light was found
Nor land or sea
Or creature of any kind.

So on day one
God made the light
As only our Creator could.
He called light 'Day'
And darkness 'Night',
And saw that it was good.

Then on day two
Heaven was made,
And the water split in half;
Some above
And some below
Heaven, the great expanse.

Now on day three
God did gather
The waters that flowed below,
Creating Earth
And the sea
And he saw that it was so.

Plants with seeds,
Trees with fruit,
Vegetation and strong vine,
Sprouted from Earth
Filling the land
Each according to its kind.

On day four
God did place
Sun, moon and stars in the sky.
The sun rules the day
And moon, the night
And stars light the heavens so high.

There for seasons
And for signs
And also for years and days;
The moon and stars
And sun so bright
Keep time as we go on our ways.

Birds and fish
For sky and sea,
Were created on day five;
They flew and swam
And multiplied
The first creatures to be alive.

Beasts and livestock
And creeping things
Day six arrived on earth;
And man was formed
Likening God-
A great symbol of man's worth.

So all was good
In the eyes of God
When the world had been completed.
Then he rested
And blessed this day
Knowing Holy time is needed.
